The End of the Oregon Trail

We have passed countless signs marking trails blazed across the west... Each marking a milestone in America's history.  Lewis and Clark Trail, California Trail, Mormon Trail, Yellowstone Trail, Pony Express Trail, Applegate Trail, Oregon Trail, etc, etc, etc.

I have spent a considerable amount of time pondering the lives and lifestyles of these earlier adventures... Their sacrifices, their losses, their joys, their accomplishment... and I sincerely want to know more!

While on a souvenir map-hunt of rest areas, I caught a glimpse of some strange white, tubular frames rising above the tree line.  Curiosity won and we ventured down the road to check it out.   We landed at the End of the Oregon Trail.  These frames are replicas of covered wagon frames and they are laid out in a semicircle representing the "circling of the wagons".

The interpretative center in Oregon City had a wonderful outdoor exhibit detailing some of the lives of this bygone era.  They even had a short audio (cell phone) audio tour highlighting the old governor. Unfortunately, the indoor museum had closed for the day.... I will have to add a visit to a future adventure!

I'll leave you with a quote pressed in the walkway just outside the center.... it fits my attitude to a T.
