The Oregon Trail... Wyoming

It wasn't on our radar, but we are grateful we made the quick U-turn to hit the rest stop... With so few places along this stretch if the highway, we were worried it would be a long time before another stop was available. Besides the obvious reason for being grateful ;), we discovered a State Historical site just behind the building!!!

Independent Rock was a stop along the Oregon Trail.   It also lies on the Mormon Trail, the California Trail, and the Pony Express Route.

In true "it just can't be simple" Tick-Magnets style, Clyde was approached by a sweet elderly man while we were stopped.  He and his wife, a local couple, had come to the rest area for a picnic lunch.  He had seen the Seattle or Bust on the geomobile and was concerned that we were headed in the wrong direction.  He explained to us that we were headed south toward Colorado, not west toward Washington.  Clyde shared our travel adventure with him and then we left with this sweet man's advice and good wishes in tow.
